Wouldn't it suck if you compromised your own integrity, in exchange for the popularity it promises?

But obviously, for some people it won't really matter -- they see it as merely change, a way of life; an adaptation; that it isn't wrong to sell your soul, your values and beliefs to the Devil if it meant an easier path to acceptance.

Let's face it, inevitably, which person wouldn't have been even just slightly tempted to do so?

It's really, the question of whether you can manage to hold out, I think. Saying no to peer pressure and holding your chin up. At least you won't have your conscience to answer to; caving in would, sooner or later, make you question your actions and ponder -- unless your ego has inflated to the extent that your head is bigger than your butt (figuratively speaking).

And I think it would be sad, too, for the people who love you to watch your transformation; it's going to be disgusting to watch a pretense that's so obviously faked for the people around you, that it slowly engulfs your whole being and the act becomes part of you, so all that's left is just the good ol' memories.

No, it's not called growing up, it's conforming -- and it's incurable.
